Who on this planet doesn’t love the beach? It’s basically a rhetorical question. Do you love the beach? No need to answer. Everyone just assumes you do. It’s like asking someone if they like chocolate. It’s a given. Then there is the question of what beaches are the best and which ones aren’t worth your time. In my humble but correct opinion, I believe North Carolina beaches are outstanding. Now, this may be because I’m a North Carolina native, but I seriously doubt it. There’s no bias here. I’ve actually experienced beaches on both coasts and have a knowledgeable opinion to offer. So, who’s up for some sand, surf and fun?
I come from Chapel Hill. Yeah, you heard it right. I am going to go ahead and guess that you know this place. Most likely because of it’s famous university, UNC. Many guys I’ve encountered from other states, know this particular university for one simple fact. It’s where Michael Jordan went to school. Hey, we even had a Michael Jordan restaurant in town for a while. I believe that one shut down. The food really wasn’t that great, but for some reason the prices were high. Hmm, could it be the name? Anyway, one of the great aspects of this area is that you’re really not far from the North Carolina beaches. Drive a couple hours and you’re golden.
What I prefer about the North Carolina beaches is how warm they are during the summer months. It’s great. You can head down to the water’s edge in your swimsuit and sunglasses. The warm sun shines down as you wade out into the gradually deeper water. Right now you’re probably wondering why this is such a big deal. Maybe you actually expect all beaches to be this way. WRONG! They’re not. North Carolina beaches are nothing like Oregon beaches. Up there on the west coast, the water drops off rather suddenly and it’s freezing. I went in July and it was around 58 degrees on the Newport Coast. Yikes!
As you can imagine, there are some variations in coasts and beaches. The Florida beaches are not going to be identical to the California ones. If you’re headed down south, you might as well plan on a lot of humidity. Take my advice and check out the North Carolina beaches the next time you’re looking for a coast.
